In 2001 the Quintessence Breastfeeding Challenge started in the canadian province of British Columbia with 856 babies and their mothers at 26 sites. By 2009, there were 4,766 babies at 246 sites in 21 countries. The Breastfeeding Challenge continues to grow globally as additional people join in. Breastfeeding and donor milk-banking need support around the world. This year we would like to see the number of participants increase dramatically. Do your part, join us - organize a site - big or small! Every breastfeeding child counts in the final numbers!
For the Quintessence Foundation, 2010 presented some challenges as we updated our website and registration system just before the Breastfeeding Challenge. Although a number of sites were unable to take part, we did have good support. There were 4,373 children at 216 sites in 18 countries who took part.
